The VC 5 is built to move with you. It’s got large rubber wheels in the back that handle rough jobsite terrain, and locking casters in the front to keep it steady when you need it to stay put. Whether you’re dragging it across concrete or rolling through a garage, it moves smooth and stays stable. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you’re constantly on the move.

Up front, the Hilti VC 5 keeps things simple and functional. The hose port is easy to access.  Just to the right is the on/off dial, which is large and easy to turn—even with gloves on.

Right on top of the VC 5, you’ll find one of its most useful features—the push-button filter cleaner. Just give it a press and it knocks the dust loose from the filter to help maintain suction without having to open the vacuum or dig anything out. It’s quick, easy, and keeps the performance strong, especially during heavy use.

The large carrying handle on top makes moving the VC 5 super convenient. It’s sturdy and gives you a solid grip when lifting it into a truck, carrying it up stairs, or just repositioning around the site. And when you’re not using it, it folds away cleanly so it’s not in the way or snagging on things.

One of the standout features of the VC 5 is the retractable push bar. When extended, it gives you easy control and maneuverability—especially useful when rolling it across larger job sites or rough surfaces. When you don’t need it, the bar folds back neatly into the body, keeping a low profile and staying completely out of the way.

The VC 5 comes with an 11.5-foot power cord, giving you plenty of reach to move around without constantly switching outlets. It’s long enough for most jobsite setups, and when you’re done, the cord wraps neatly around the back for easy storage.

While a 10 foot hose is nice, it would be great to see Hilti offer an upgrade length for those who want something longer when you are cleaning a larger area.

The dust bag inside the VC 5 does a great job of trapping fine particles and keeping everything contained. What I really like is that when you remove the bag, it has a built-in cover that automatically seals it off. That means no clouds of dust flying everywhere when it’s time to empty it—just pull it out, toss it, and move on.

While the bag is nice, this is equipped with a HEPA filter which we all know is great for any jobsite.

The wide floor nozzle is perfect for quick cleanup of dirt and debris across larger areas. It covers a lot of ground fast and gets right down to the surface. What’s nice is that you can swap out the brush inserts for rubber blades, which makes it ideal for wet pickups too.

To put the Hilti VC 5 to the test, we ran it through three real-world scenarios: sawdust, bolts, and water. First, we dumped out a full bucket of sawdust and used the floor brush attachment to clean it up. Honestly, it picked it up way faster than we expected—no clogs, no lag, just clean passes. Next, we sucked up large nuts and bolts, and the hose had zero issue picking them up, which speaks to both the suction power and the durability of the hose. Finally, we hit the bucket of water—and the VC 5 sucked it completely dry in no time. No hesitation, just pure power. This vacuum definitely punches above its weight class.

Then the Milwaukee basic kit for $10 more includes an L-bracket, different accessories, but no ceiling clip.

Bosch offers a One (1) Year Measuring Tool Limited Warranty, plus an additional year of warranty coverage if you register your tool within eight weeks of purchase.

All-in-all, the whole Bosch 100 ft. Cross-Line Laser Level kit is fairly priced when compared to similar kits. It may come down to what you use your laser level for, but the Bosch kit at its price has more applications than the Milwaukee kit.

Ladders are an essential piece of equipment whether you are a painter, electrician, contractor, or just a general handyman or gal. Ladders allow us to access high up places, but they are not exactly easy to move from location to location. This is where telescoping ladders come in handy. They can extend out far enough to get the job done, but fold-up compact enough to easily transport. However, telescoping ladders have their pitfalls. That is why I’m so excited to review the Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder. Not only does it extend over 12 ft. and fold-up to a fourth of its size, but it’s packed with safety and stability features that promote safe use each and every time you step on a ladder.

Today we’re taking you through these key features on the new Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder, and an honest review of my experience using it.

Features of Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder

The Werner TS1250 is a telescoping ladder for professionals. It’s designed to be versatile and portable without sacrificing stability and safety.

Ladder Sizes & Load Capacity

The TS1250 is approximately 20 in. wide, which provides ample space for climbing up and down any ladder. The full extension height is 12.5 ft. but collapses down to only 35 in., or about a fourth of the fully extended size. It also has a four-step partial extension option (top step is approx. 45″ off the ground). This ladder can hold up to 300 lbs., which is average capacity for this size telescoping ladder.

Portability

When collapsed the storage strap wraps around the steps, and a carrying handle allows you to easily carry ladder from site to site. The ladder is made from a lightweight but durable aluminum and weighs 33 lbs.

Stability & Safety

Again, this ladder is 20 in. wide with a five step “wide work zone” on this model. In addition to the stability you get from the width, the ladder also has anti-slip non-marring feet to prevent the ladder from sliding out from under you.

The Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder is ANSI-rated and OSHA-certified.

Easy to Use

Let’s take a moment to focus on the locks. Before you step on the ladder you have the lock indicators that provide a visual cue that the ladder is locked and safe to step on. When you’re done, these same locks have one-click unlock and speed controlled lowering.

Performance Review

I’ll be honest: telescoping ladders are kind of scary to use. In my experience they all have some flex to them because they don’t have the added support of a traditional ladder. However, I’m happy to report that the Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder had the least amount of flex that I’ve experienced with this kind of ladder. All-around I found this ladder to be very sturdy. You can feel the non-marring feet and bumpers working with the locks to keep the ladder stable and prevent slips.

There are other convenience features I like about this ladder, but I wanted to talk about this first because stability and safety are the most important features when it comes to ladders.

However, I’m also happy to report that this was easy to extend and fold back up. The storage strap held it together, the handle made it easy to carry. The one-click unlock worked and it closed smoothly.

The Werner TS1250 Telescoping Ladder is not available yet but will be available for $369.99 at The Home Depot and Lowe’s. This price is slightly higher than some of the telescoping and extendable ladders of the same height, but Werner is a well-known and reputable ladder brand. So, you may pay $20-30 more, but you’re getting a brand you know and can trust.

These heavy-duty magnets allow you to utilize vertical storage by gripping onto a magnetic surface, such as cabinets, tool chests, lockers, and so on. That same magnet plus the grooved design holds sockets in place. It’s also perfect for holding other small, metal hand tools, like wrenches and pliers.

DIY Socket Set Organization

Pinterest and the internet in general are home to tons of great DIY tool storage solutions. Power Source

The Bosch Wall Scanner GMS120-27 gives consumers two power source options: two AA batteries, or a USB-C rechargeable Bosch LM-BAT 3.7V Lithium-Ion 1.0 Ah Battery Pack, which is the same battery used to power the Bosch laser levels.

Both options fit in the back battery panel. These two options are extremely convenient for users. AA batteries are extremely accessible. Users aren’t forced to buy another piece of Bosch equipment, and they make a great backup option in the event the Bosch battery isn’t charged.

Performance Review

So you want to know how the Bosch Wall Scanner GMS120-27 works? Fortunately, like most wall scanners it’s easy to use. You turn it on, press it to the drywall, and drag it across the surface to scan. But what key features make this Bosch wall scanner stand out against other wall scanners?

Detects 4 Types of Material

The Bosch wall scanner can detect both magnetic and non-magnetic metals, wood beams, and live wires, and has a max scan depth of 120 mm. This is what the “120” means in GMS120-27.

Here are the scan depths for each material:

• Non-magnetic: 120 mm
• Magnetic: 100 mm
• Live electric: 50 mm
• Wood beams behind drywall: 30 mm

Easy-to-read Display

This scanner identifies the center of a material with a series of rings. The closer the scanner moves to the center of a material the more rings light up. There is also a voltage indicator that lights up whenever a current is detected.

Manual Material Selection

Want to scan for wood beams? This sensor can be turned on or off easily. The button is on the main display next to the Metal/Electricity Button.

This scanner can also be calibrated if a wall has a mesh reinforcement like a concrete wall with reinforcing mesh or rebar, which would mess with readings. To calibrate the scanner, the user just needs to run the scanner around the surface in a large circle to give it a reading on the reinforcement, and it will then automatically adjust.

Are you having trouble using the scanner? Good news: Bosch put a QR code on the back of the scanner that routes you to the owner’s manual, along with FAQ’s and video tutorials.

Design Review

Everyone loves to know what functions and features a tool has. But a lot of the time it doesn’t matter if that tool isn’t easy or comfortable to use. The Bosch Wall Scanner GMS120-27 has a comfortable ergonomic design that includes recessed handles within the center body.

This wall scanner also has a really nice display. The color-coded marking hole is vibrant and easy to notice a change from green to red. The center ring sensor and voltage sensor have strong illumination and great contrast, making it easy to read. It also makes it easy to mark where materials are detected so you know their location when you pull the scanner away.

The sensors also appear to be pretty sensitive and there’s no lag when identifying the material.

This is a nice, durable wall scanner. It has an IP54-rating, meaning it can withstand dust, rain, accidental drops, and rattling around in a toolbox.

Value

There are a lot of wall scanners on the market. There are a lot of cheap ones too. However, this is a you-get-what-you-pay-for situation. The everyday Joe or Jane who just needs a wall scanner a couple times throughout their lives to hang a TV or a shelf can get away with a $20 scanner. But the trade professional who is doing this every day at different locations in various conditions needs something durable and highly accurate.

The Bosch GMS120-27 retails around $100, but can be found on Amazon for only $95.99. 120 mm is a generous scan depth, and the Bosch GMS120-27 is cheaper than comparable models. All around, it’s fairly priced.

Is it Worth It?

There isn’t much to dispute about the Bosch Wall Scanner GMS120-27. It is well-designed, easy to use, and fairly priced. It’s not a necessary piece of equipment for the everyday consumer, but is a great option for trade professionals.

“What is a utility knife used for?”

A utility knife is a toolbelt staple across various trades thanks to its multiple uses. It’s often associated with drywall installation or wall repair, but it’s used by electricians to strip wire,  and by carpenters to score shims for window installation. Utility knives are used to cut everything from carpet to cardboard, and even basic tasks like opening boxes.

A utility knife needs to be sharp, stable, and safe. Bosch got these down. Utility knife blades are “razor sharp” so accidental cuts are a safety concern. This risk is lowered by creating knives with secure grips providing better control.

All the charities listed below have long-standing records of direct impact in the communities they serve. As a bonus, most of these organizations can be found in all 50 states for you to easily donate your tools.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) may be the biggest organization with the most direct impact that you can donate tools to. Habitat for Humanity has locations in all 50 states and is most known for low-cost home construction for low-income families and individuals. The tools you donate could literally help build someone a home.

Most people also know about Habitat for Humanity ReStore centers. These stores resell furniture and home renovation supplies to the public to help fund the organization. Because of its multiple services Habitat for Humanity accepts a long list of donations and ways to get involved.

Habitat for Humanity accepts the following donations:

• Hand tools, power tools, building equipment, and building materials.
• Old appliances, home decor, and fixtures.
• Labor – join a local Habitat chapter and donate your time to help with home construction, home repair, and more!

No Habitat Restore by you? Reach out to a local Habitat chapter. Some chapters take donations to use in upcoming builds or sell third-party to support their organization. Either way, you should still receive tax credit for your donation.

Goodwill Industries

Goodwill is a popular secondhand clothing and goods store that has been around since the 1950’s. Most people may see it as a place to save on mostly clothing and home goods. However, Goodwill Industries offers a variety of services and programs, such as employment opportunities and job training to at-risk youth and seniors, youth mentoring, and multiple programs to fight poverty.

Goodwill stores help fund these programs and opportunities and your donations keep these stores alive.

Okay, we’re going to break the rules because this isn’t a single organization. But tool libraries are a great way to provide affordable access to tools to a wide variety of people. A lot of major cities have their tool library/sharing program, along with some larger communities. Local Tools is a great resource for finding a tool library near you.

There are a lot of tool libraries out there, but these are a few we want to mention:

Each tool library program will operate differently. So, just make sure you understand the program before you join.

Tool libraries love tool donations and many are nonprofits that offer tax credit in exchange for your donation. Again, just check with your local tool library before donating.

Tool donation isn’t the only way to get a credit. Your tools are made out of precious metals and materials that many people want to keep out of landfills. Tool recycling is a great alternative if you don’t have any of the above organizations near you, or your tools are not in working condition.

I had the opportunity to use this rebar cutter on a few occasions, and it left a strong impression. The tool is well-balanced and capable of cutting very close to concrete, which is a big plus. What stood out most was how fast and effortlessly it cut through rebar.

As with any tool, it’s best to let it do the work, but we all have moments where we instinctively push a little harder to speed things up. Whether I let the tool work at its own pace or applied extra pressure, the performance was consistently smooth, with minimal vibration.

Hilti is known as one of the premier tool brands, and this cutter lives up to that reputation. From the moment you pick it up, it’s clear that it’s built for serious work and designed to last, just like other Hilti tools. In my opinion, this is the best rebar cutter on the market—hands down.

If you’re unfamiliar, these pumps are extremely heavy-duty and professional-grade pumps. They are tested and rated at over 500 hours and are some of the most efficient pumps on the market. Again, DEWALT provides a 5-year pump warranty for these quality pumps.

Accessories

Accessories provide versatility and control for different pressure washing situations.

Each of these DEWALT Pressure Washers comes with four to five different nozzle attachments. These give users even more control over the desired flow rate. Not an accessory, but a “feature”, the 3600 PSI model also has PowerBoost technology to give you more power on demand.

These hoses are non-marring and high-pressure, which is more abrasion-resistant than a rubber hose.

Quick Dam Flood Barriers So You Are Prepared for Whatever Fall (and Winter) Bring

Who doesn’t love singing in the rain?! I’ll tell you who, your property when the rain has overstayed its welcome and the flooding starts. With unpredictable weather constantly brewing it’s good to be prepared for flooding. Flood damage is one of the leading homeowner insurance claims, and can be mitigated by grabbing a bag of Quick Dam Flood Barriers and tucking them in your cabinet until needed.

They don’t need much space, and unlike traditional sandbags that are bulky, heavy, and often times sold out when you need them, Quick Dam rises to the occasion when needed (pun intended).

With a gel interior, Quick Dam Bags (and barriers) are water activated and swell upon contact with water. So, when you see the water pouring where it shouldn’t be open a bag, pull out a Quick Dam and place it in the way. Once water hits, the bags grow to 12in x 24in x 3.5in high. Bags start at 3 ft., barriers go up to 17ft.

Quick Dam products are a must-have product on my fall home and jobsite list because no one needs to worry about flooding during a cold fall rainfall.

The Outdoor Plus Fireplaces & Waterfalls and more to Light UP Outdoor Living

Creating an outdoor oasis to relax from everyday stresses continues to be a trend at home, and with crisp fall nights ahead, adding a fire feature is a great way to extend the season and create cozy fall home vibes. Add a water and a fire feature and now we are feeling like we are at a resort (and in some cases we can be with these finds!).
