I’ve been a Hilti fan for decades—since the late ’80s, actually—and that loyalty isn’t just about brand name. It’s about trust. Tools come and go, but Hilti has always stood out for one reason: quality. That’s exactly what you get with the Hilti VC 5, their compact wet/dry construction vacuum with a pushbar. Whether it’s their rotary hammers, impact drivers, or something as straightforward as a vacuum, Hilti doesn’t cut corners.

A lot of brands chase headlines—trying to be first to market, rushing products out to boost sales. Hilti doesn’t play that game. They take their time, and it shows. Every tool they release is built to withstand jobsite abuse, offer real value to workers, and function like a true professional-grade piece of equipment. The VC 5 is no exception. It might not be flashy, but it’s rugged, powerful, and designed to get the job done day in and day out.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum Overview

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

This is the Hilti VC 5 in all its compact glory. It’s a wet/dry vacuum designed specifically for daily jobsite cleanups, whether you’re dealing with fine dust or wet messes. Despite its small size, it holds up to 5 gallons and delivers a strong 140 CFM of suction, which is impressive for something this portable. When equipped with the optional HEPA filter, it also meets OSHA 1926.1153 Table 1 compliance standards for silica dust, making it a serious tool for keeping your jobsite safe and clean.

The VC 5 is built to move with you. It’s got large rubber wheels in the back that handle rough jobsite terrain, and locking casters in the front to keep it steady when you need it to stay put. Whether you’re dragging it across concrete or rolling through a garage, it moves smooth and stays stable. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you’re constantly on the move.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

Up front, the Hilti VC 5 keeps things simple and functional. The hose port is easy to access.  Just to the right is the on/off dial, which is large and easy to turn—even with gloves on.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

Right on top of the VC 5, you’ll find one of its most useful features—the push-button filter cleaner. Just give it a press and it knocks the dust loose from the filter to help maintain suction without having to open the vacuum or dig anything out. It’s quick, easy, and keeps the performance strong, especially during heavy use.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

The large carrying handle on top makes moving the VC 5 super convenient. It’s sturdy and gives you a solid grip when lifting it into a truck, carrying it up stairs, or just repositioning around the site. And when you’re not using it, it folds away cleanly so it’s not in the way or snagging on things.

One of the standout features of the VC 5 is the retractable push bar. When extended, it gives you easy control and maneuverability—especially useful when rolling it across larger job sites or rough surfaces. When you don’t need it, the bar folds back neatly into the body, keeping a low profile and staying completely out of the way.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

The VC 5 comes with an 11.5-foot power cord, giving you plenty of reach to move around without constantly switching outlets. It’s long enough for most jobsite setups, and when you’re done, the cord wraps neatly around the back for easy storage.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

On the side of the VC 5, you’ve got on-board storage that actually works. It’s built to hold the metal extension tubes securely, so they’re always within reach and not rolling around your truck or jobsite. Everything stays neat, tight, and easy to access, which means less setup time and fewer lost parts.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

The Hilti VC 5 comes equipped with a 10-foot hose, providing ample length for most jobsite tasks. This allows for efficient cleaning without the constant need to reposition the vacuum. While a 10 foot hose is nice, it would be great to see Hilti offer an upgrade length for those who want something longer when you are cleaning a larger area.

The dust bag inside the VC 5 does a great job of trapping fine particles and keeping everything contained. What I really like is that when you remove the bag, it has a built-in cover that automatically seals it off. That means no clouds of dust flying everywhere when it’s time to empty it—just pull it out, toss it, and move on.

While the bag is nice, this is equipped with a HEPA filter which we all know is great for any jobsite.

The wide floor nozzle is perfect for quick cleanup of dirt and debris across larger areas. It covers a lot of ground fast and gets right down to the surface. What’s nice is that you can swap out the brush inserts for rubber blades, which makes it ideal for wet pickups too.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum Performance

To put the Hilti VC 5 to the test, we ran it through three real-world scenarios: sawdust, bolts, and water. First, we dumped out a full bucket of sawdust and used the floor brush attachment to clean it up. Honestly, it picked it up way faster than we expected—no clogs, no lag, just clean passes. Next, we sucked up large nuts and bolts, and the hose had zero issue picking them up, which speaks to both the suction power and the durability of the hose. Finally, we hit the bucket of water—and the VC 5 sucked it completely dry in no time. No hesitation, just pure power. This vacuum definitely punches above its weight class.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum Value

The Hilti VC 5 starts at $349, and if you want the version with the push bar, it comes in at $414. And honestly? It’s worth every penny. You’re getting a compact, powerful vacuum, easy to move around, and built to handle tough jobsite cleanup without breaking a sweat. For how well it performs across dust, debris, and liquid, it easily justifies the price.Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum

Hilti’s Tool Warranty: 20 years on materials and workmanship, 2 years on wear and tear, and in and out of the repair center in one day, guaranteed, or the repair is free.

But what really sets it apart is what comes with the vacuum—Hilti’s legendary support network. If something goes wrong, they’ve got people in the field who can get you taken care of fast. That means less downtime, fewer headaches, and more time actually getting work done. It’s not just about the tool—it’s about the total package, and Hilti delivers.

Hilti VC 5 Construction Vacuum Wrap Up

The Hilti VC 5 might be compact, but it delivers big-time performance. It handles everything from fine sawdust to heavy bolts and even standing water—without skipping a beat. It’s easy to maneuver, easy to maintain, and powerful enough to handle serious cleanup jobs on any site. Add in features like the push-button filter cleaner, folding push bar, and on-board storage, and it’s clear this vacuum was built with the pro in mind.

At the end of the day, it’s a Hilti—built to last, built to perform, and backed by one of the best service networks in the industry. If you need a vacuum that’s ready to work, the VC 5 is more than up to the task.  It’s the best compact vacuum we have tested.

As we wrap up the year, we’re concluding our series of reviews on 2024 Hilti releases. Today, we’re diving into the Hilti NRC 6-22 Cordless Rebar Cutter. This specialized tool is designed to cut rebar up to one inch/#8, provides impressive on-site versatility, and a competitive price tag. But with these capabilities—plus a few standout new features—is it worth upgrading from the rebar cutter currently in your toolbox? Let’s find out.

Hilti NRC 6-22 Cordless Rebar Cutter Review

The NRC 6-22 also follows up on the Hilti Nuron promise to provide construction workers with safer tools.

Keep reading to dig into the details that make the Hilti NRC 6-22 Cordless Rebar Cutter an ideal rebar cutter for the commercial construction worker.

Cut Capacity

The Hilti NRC 6-22 was built to cut through #8/one in. thick rebar when paired with the Hilti X-cut rebar cold cutting blades. Not only does this rebar cutter have the strength to cut through industrial construction rebar, but the Hilti NRC 6-22 performed 122 cuts on #6 rebar on a single charge.

Enhanced Safety

Cermet tipped X-cut rebar blades create fewer sparks and reduce heat build-up which prevents injury and tool malfunction. The safety is further enhanced with a fully encased blade guard that protects the operator.

Faster Cuts, Longer Battery Life

X-cut rebar blades were developed to be extra thin with extra teeth. The combination results in a blade that drains less on the battery with more progressive cuts with every spin. Hilti claims it can cut through #8 rebar in about four seconds – we did it consistently in under ten seconds, which is still an exceptional time saver.

Back to Guide

Where to Buy Hilti Rebar Cutter

The Hilti NRC 6-22 Cordless Rebar Cutter can be purchased directly from the Hilti site. The tool starts at $799 for the bare tool with the case. Buyers can also customize their kit to include a battery, charger, or Xcut rebar blades. Hilti also offers fleet discounts for buyers needing multiple rebar cutters.

Final Thoughts on Hilti Nuron NRC 6-22

I had the opportunity to use this rebar cutter on a few occasions, and it left a strong impression. The tool is well-balanced and capable of cutting very close to concrete, which is a big plus. What stood out most was how fast and effortlessly it cut through rebar.

As with any tool, it’s best to let it do the work, but we all have moments where we instinctively push a little harder to speed things up. Whether I let the tool work at its own pace or applied extra pressure, the performance was consistently smooth, with minimal vibration.

Hilti is known as one of the premier tool brands, and this cutter lives up to that reputation. From the moment you pick it up, it’s clear that it’s built for serious work and designed to last, just like other Hilti tools. In my opinion, this is the best rebar cutter on the market—hands down.

Time is money on any jobsite, and safety is invaluable. The Hilti NRC 6-22 Cordless Rebar Cutter sets itself apart from other rebar cutters on the market. Few models can handle #8 rebar, and its cold cutting and burr-free flush cuts save significant time. Its unmatched safety features—such as the fully enclosed blade guard and adjustable 3-position side handle—will help keep your jobsite injury free. At a bare tool price of $799 it’s more than competitively priced and it’s backed by Hilti’s industry-leading product warranty and Hilti Tool Service. With all these advantages, I think it would be hard to justify NOT upgrading to this rebar cutter.

Where to Buy Hilti Nuron Vacuums

Some Hilti vacuums can be purchased at popular retailers, such as The Home Depot, but currently, the Hilti VC 4LX-22 TB Cordless Vacuum can only be purchased directly through Hilti and possibly some specialty retailers.

Starting at $549 for the basic kit, the Hilti VC 4LX-22 TB does price high compared to other professional vacuums and dust extractors. However, this tool is designed specifically for the Hilti Nuron platform and the modular design allows it to fit a variety of specific uses without needing different types of equipment. Throughout the year we have reviewed new power tools from Hilti’s 2024 pipeline. Today we have the Hilti Nuron DGH 130-22 Cordless Concrete Grinder. This new concrete grinder gives you freedom from cords plus the improved long-lasting power and performance users get from the Hilti Nuron battery platform.

Today we are going over these features and more. Keep reading to see how this concrete grinder compares to others on the market and whether or not its essential for your crew.

Guide

Hilti Nuron Cordless Concrete Grinder

  • Model Name: Hilti Nuron DGH 130-22 Cordless Concrete Grinder
  • Model #: DGH 130-22
  • Features: Cordless concrete grinder with six speed settings ranging from 3,000-8,000 RPM, “slimline grip and padded head” create a comfortable and easy to control grip, and built-in vacuum connector creates a dustless grinding environment when paired with Hilti Vacuum. The cordless design allows you to get to work faster with no tripping hazards, and diamond grinding tools and Nuron power combine for fast and efficient concrete grinding.
  • Price: Kits start at $499 for bare tool.

Features & Performance Review

Concrete grinders are pretty simple tools, and this Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder is not the first cordless concrete grinder on the market. So, what makes this tool standout? Here are the features that stood out to us.

Fast & Efficient Concrete Grinding

Again, this is a six speed cordless concrete grinder that has a range of 3,000-8,000 RPM. The max RPM on this is impressive when compared to other grinders on the market.

The compatible diamond grinding tools for this tool are the SPX Turbo A Diamond Grinding Cup Wheel and the SPX Finishing Pad. The cut wheel is for tougher jobs while the finishing wheel provides a scratch-free finish. Either way, diamond is the best material for grinding and Hilti doesn’t even offer an inferior option.

Last, all of this is paired with the Hilti Nuron battery platform. You’re getting the long-lasting battery life and unyielding power performance. All three of these together allow the cordless concrete grinder to perform to the best of its ability to power through tough grinding jobs.

On top of this, the cordless design lets you get to work right away and no stopping because of cord limitations.

Safer Work Environment

A cordless concrete grinder frees your from the trip hazards and annoyances of a corded tool. Plus this Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder has a vacuum connector that connects to the new Hilti Vacuum for dust-free grinding. This is better for your lungs and visibility. Plus, it just creates a more enjoyable work environment.

This tool can also sense if its slipped out of grasped and automatically shuts off.

Improved Comfort and Control

The Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder was designed to be easy to control with help from the slimline grip and padded head.

Final Thoughts on Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder

The Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder starts at $499 for the bare tool when bought directly from Hilti. There are some kit and fleet discounts, but this grinder still prices higher than most competitors. However, Hilti is a leader in the concrete industry. A lot of these other grinders on the market are multiuse. Some people see these tools as “versatile”. However, you should see the Hilti Cordless Concrete Grinder as “specialty”, meaning everything about this tool has been made and tested for the industrial concrete industry. Those in this industry will find this tool provides them with exactly what they need day-to-day.

Hilti continues to bring new and innovative power tools to market. This includes the release the Hilti Nuron SM 60-22 Cordless Miter Saw. As a woodworker and DIY’er I was extremely excited to experiment with this professional-grade cordless miter saw. Aside from its top tier performance, it has a variety of features that I like because it makes the saw safer and more functional.

Keep reading for my complete thoughts and review, including how I think it stacks up in Hilti’s 2024 pipeline.

Guide

Hilti Nuron Cordless Miter Saw

  • Model Name: Hilti Nuron SM 60-22 Cordless Miter Saw
  • Model #: SM 60-22
  • Features: 22V cordless miter saw with a 12 in. blade. This cordless miter saw has six variable speeds and a max of up to 4,300 RPM which makes you believe this is a corded saw. Equipped with a sturdy and easily adjustable stand, plus one key for all adjustments. Cordless miter saw features a dual-bevel with a 4 in. x 13-3/4 in. cross-cut capacity. The LED “shadow line” cut line indicator depicts the precise location and angle of your cut, and blade guard provides protection from saw blade. Save space with the forward-sliding rail, which also allows you to back your cordless miter saw for added versatility. Accessible front controls provide added safety. Saw includes dust bag for dust collection, or it can be hooked up to Hilti vacuum.
  • Price: Kits start at $869, discount offers on fleet pricing.
  • Where to Buy: Direct from Hilti.

Features & Performance Review

I’ll be honest, this Hilti cordless miter saw has so many features that I could just sit here and bore you as I review each one. The Hilti video above is a great summary of the features. But I am going to tell you about what features stood out to me.

22V Nuron Cordless Power

Hilti Nuron SM 60-22

Miter saws are powerful and even as the power tool shifts to cordless, many miter saws are still corded. The Hilti Cordless Miter Saw runs of the Hilti 22V Nuron battery. If cutting 2×4’s Hilti estimates one charge should provide you with around 450 cuts.

Variable Speed Dial

Hilti Nuron SM 60-22

The Hilti Cordless Miter Saw has a 6 speed variable speed dial that ranges from 2,000-4,300 RPM’s. This allows users to adjust speed for added control or when cutting different materials, such as aluminum.

Forward-sliding Rail

Hilti Nuron SM 60-22

Miter saws are huge bulky machines. The most annoying thing about their design is that often the sliding rail slides back so you can’t place them flush up against a wall, which is frustrating because a lot of miter saws are corded as well. This makes it a nightmare to place them somewhere convenient.

The Hilti cordless miter saw has a “zero back” forward-sliding rail, which gives you a lot more freedom when placing the miter saw somewhere it can function. The convenience of this immediately stands out to me.

Heavy-Duty Construction with User-Friendly Design

Hilti Nuron SM 60-22

As much as I enjoy this cordless miter saw just sitting in my garage, it is made to be taken from site to site. At 60 lbs. the miter saw is fairly lightweight, the stand itself is maybe 10 lbs., and the saw and stand together are designed to be easy to adjust, use and transport.

When something is designed to be lightweight, portable, and adjustable it’s common for the construction quality to take a hit. Not in this case. The stand is a heavy-duty powdered coated steel with welded construction. The miter saw has a similar high-quality construction despite being a more compact design. It’s going to hold-up to rough and heavy use.

Value

People have been comparing the Hilti Nuron Cordless Miter Saw to the Makita Cordless Miter Saw (XSL06PT-R). Many remark that it looks and functions similarly. However, there are a few key differences.

The Makita without the stand sells for around $590. Yes, this is a cheaper saw. However, it’s only a 10 in., the Hilti is 12 in. Hilti estimates about 450 cuts on a single charge while the Makita can only make 334 cuts and requires two Makita batteries. While Makita has a great cordless miter saw, it just doesn’t stand up to the performance or capacity of the Hilti Cordless Miter Saw.

Like most Hilti products, they are expensive. However, they have the power and construction quality that’s needed in the high-demand construction settings they are used for.

TIA Final Review: Hilti Nuron Cordless Miter Saw

The Hilti Cordless Miter Saw is an awesome saw. I know many people would say all miter saws are the same, but I thoroughly enjoyed using this one. As a Hilti product, I knew it was going to perform well, but the convenience and user-friendly design and adaptability to whatever I’m working on is that makes it stand out to me.

The Hilti Nuron SM 60-22 Cordless Miter Saw fits in perfectly with Hilti’s 2024 lineup of tools. We have done quite a few Hilti reviews this year and all of them have provided unique innovations. It makes me excited to see what tool releases Hilti is ending the year with, but even more excited to know what the brand hopes to bring in 2025.

Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw Performance Review

As I mentioned, Hilti’s emphasis is better precision, enhanced safety, and unmatched speed (6,000 RPM, no load) and runtime for this new Hilti Nuron Plunge Saw. Hilti is also one of the top manufacturers of professional power tools in the world. So there is a little extra pressure to live up to that standard. Let’s see how this plunge saw measures up.

Precision

Precision blade depth (1mm incremental) and bevel adjustment (up to 47°) provides accurate cuts. The ergonomic grips, guide rails, and a powder-coated shoe create less resistance and allow for more control when cutting, and contribute to better performance overall.

Safety Features

One of the main features designed for safety is the “high dust rate capture”. This can be accomplished by utilizing the Hilti Dust Bag accessory, or the saw can be attached to their Compact Wet & Dry Vacuum for optimal dust capture. The blade is fully concealed when the saw is idle, and there is a retractable dust shield window to reduce material spray during use.

Speed & Battery Life

The improved speed comes from two things: the perfectly paired Hilti Universal Wood Blade, and the Hilti Nuron 22V battery. A superior blade made for a specific saw drains the battery less than a subpar blade that struggles to cut as efficiently. This pairing leads to less wear on the battery for better runtime.

Then, the Hilti Nuron 22V battery is simply one of the best batteries on the market. On top of the improved heat management and faster recharge times of previous models, they also have built-in shock absorber and internal battery monitoring.

These batteries are built to sustain less damage for a longer life, and a user can check a battery’s performance and remove damaged or underperforming products.

Accessories

While not exactly part of the release itself, we do want to mention the variety of accessories that are compatible with this Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw.

Hilti offers a guide rail and parallel guide rail for straight and even cuts. There are also three Hilti circular saw blades (#2389952, #2389956, #2361744) to cut wood, abrasive material, and more. Last, there is a Hilti Dust Bag attachment to further improve dust collection while cutting. Hilti shows 13 accessories for this saw in their listing.

Value of Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw

The Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw can be bought directly from Hilti starting at $579 for the bare-tool. Yes, there are cheaper plunge saws on the market, and many of those are great options for the everyday DIYer or even a small independent contractor. However, this is a professional plunge saw largely meant for the commercial or industrial construction industry. It’s made to outperform most saws you can get off the shelf from your local hardware store.

Makita, Milwaukee, and DeWALT are other familiar brands with brushless, cordless, track saws. You can get full kits (battery, case, track, etc.) for around the price of the Hilti bare-tool. However you’ll sacrifice at least a few thousand RPM’s. And none of these match the safety features, power, and runtime of the Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw. The Hilti Nuron line also offers data technology and repair services that the competition doesn’t. Yes, you will likely pay more for a Hilti tool, but there is a lot of value added to that price tag.

The Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw can be purchased directly from Hilti.

Final Thoughts

Hilti continues to live up to its reputation of providing stronger, faster, and safer power tools and equipment for professionals. The Hilti Nuron 22V Plunge Saw is no different. The tool provides that superior performance that Hilti promises while improving working safety.

Uses for Hilti Nuron 360° Laser Level

The Hilti Nuron 360° Laser Level is ideal for numerous applications, such as installing drywall, aligning pipes and cables, installing plumbing lines, leveling a suspended ceiling, and more. It’s also great for ensuring clean lines when installing tile on a wall. These purely visual applications don’t typically impact the structure itself, but they still reflect craftsmanship.

Features Review

The common complaints of laser levels are that they drain batteries, the lines aren’t visible in certain types of light, and are easily breakable. Hilti did a great job of addressing each of these common complaints and then raised the bar so high that these are no longer a concern.

Let’s take a deep dive into each of Hilti laser level’s features.

Accuracy & Visibility

Hilti 360-degree laser level PM-50MG-A22

Hilti claims the Hilti Nuron 360° Laser Level can accurately cast three lines up to 262 ft. without a receiver and up to 427 ft. with a receiver. Hilti reported the accuracy of these lines as ±0.12 in. at 33 ft. This laser is incredibly accurate with a phenomenal range.

In addition to the accuracy and range is the visibility. Many lasers use a red light which isn’t always visible in all light throughout the day or in all construction settings. Some lasers are just weaker. Not the Hilti laser.

Hilti chose a neon green light. The color choice stands out against the various shades of light and is vibrant enough to be seen in an already bright setting.

Runtime

Hilti Nuron 22V battery

The Hilti laser runs off a Hilti Nuron 22V battery. This battery provides up to 15 hours of runtime. That’s enough runtime for most construction days. The Hilti might even have enough runtime for two work days.

Heavy-Duty Construction

Accidents happen on construction sites. A lot of surfaces are either steel or concrete and equipment can break when dropped on these surfaces. Steel, wood, and bricks are also common materials and can break products that are hit by these materials or get buried under them. The Hilti 22V Laser Level can stand up to this.

First, the Hilti Nuron 360° Laser Level has a heavy-duty housing that is drop-resistant. The durability is further reinforced by rubber dampers. The laser also has built-in temperature and humidity resistance so it can be used throughout the year in a variety of seasons and locations. It is IP 54 safety rated.

The laser level also comes with a wall mount and magnetic bracket for secure mounting while in use.

Back to Guide

Performance Review

Yes, we played around with this laser level. One thing to note is that this is a fairly large in comparison. Some others are pocket-sized, not this one. This laser level is 5.5 in. long x 5 in. wide x 7 in. tall, and just under 5 lbs. But like we said, this is not an everyday DIY’er laser level. It’s cumbersome for that kind of use, but a doable size for a construction setting. If anything, the size makes it more noticeable and durable.

We checked out the laser with lights on and off. The lines were strong and visible in both settings. It was also easy to use and the lines and we found them to be accurate.

Back to Guide

Hilti Nuron 22V Laser Level Value

Starting at $549 this Hilti laser level costs significantly more than most other models especially those found on Amazon. However, those models are generally made for smaller home projects. The Hilti Nuron 22V Laser Level is designed to cast strong, accurate lines up to 427 ft. away for up to 15 hours. You’ll be lucky to get three hours of runtime for a much smaller space with the common laser level.

The Hilti laser level is made for construction workers. Its accuracy, long runtime, and durability make it a worthwhile investment for professionals.

A lot of people regard Milwaukee Laser Levels as the best laser levels on the market. Various models range in price from around $250-$600. They are durable and have comparable runtimes, but their strongest laser levels only cast accurately up to 165 ft. and that’s just not enough for many industrial construction applications. Plus, the mounting kits are sold separately, which will make some Milwaukee laser levels cost more than the Hilti.

If large-scale construction projects make up the majority of your work, then the Hilti Nuron 22V 360° Laser Level is for you.

Back to Guide

Final Review

The Hilti Nuron 360° Laser Level (PM 50-MG22) is an incredibly accurate and high quality laser level for commercial construction projects. The price is right on par with its capabilities and well worth it if upgrading your laser level means improving your workday.

We are continuing our coverage of the lineup of 2024 Hilti Nuron power tools and equipment. Today we review the Hilti Nuron Concrete Vibrator. This is a premier concrete vibrator for the commercial construction industry, designed to release air bubbles and excess moisture from poured concrete. Hilti is also a leader in the concrete industry. These two things make me very excited about this new tool in terms of quality and performance.

Let’s dive in and see what this Hilti Nuron Concrete Vibrator offers the professional construction industry.

Hilti NCV 4-22 Concrete Vibrator

  • Model Name: Hilti Nuron NCV 4-22 Cordless Concrete Vibrator
  • Model #: NCV 4-22
  • Features: 15,000 vibrations per minute, low noise, and the whole unit weighs less than eight pounds.
  • Price: $409 (bare tool)
  • Where to Buy: Hilti site.

We Review the Hilti Concrete Vibrator

This is a cordless pencil concrete vibrator ideal for small pours and is one of the latest additions to the Hilti Nuron platform. Hilti promises that the Nuron platform offers more power, innovative safety features, and cloud-based tool data and communication services than previous Hilti products and raises the bar for power tools everywhere.

Just like any other Nuron tool, Hilti focused on developing a stronger and safer concrete vibrator.

Power

The brushless motor allows this tool to produce up to 15,000 vibrations per minute (VPM). The long-lasting Hilti Nuron battery ensures this tool performs robustly throughout the duration of the job.

Enhanced Safety

This is a “low noise, low vibration” concrete vibrator. This improves worker safety in a couple of ways. First, reducing noise is a significant step for improving worker safety because it allows workers to be more aware of their environments.

In addition to being low vibration, this tool is a lightweight and compact tool. The tool itself plus the 4 ft. whip attachment weighs under eight pounds. The tool is easy to grip and handle for easy to use and control.

Value of Hilti Concrete Vibrator

We compared the Hilti Concrete Vibrator’s price and performance to other pencil concrete vibrators.

Milwaukee and DeWALT have similar tools. The Milwaukee model is priced between $399 on Amazon (third-party seller) to $492 from Grainger. Its price is on par or above the Hilti model, but only provides 12,500 VPM. DeWALT has a concrete vibrator that is more powerful than the Milwaukee one and produces 14,000 VPM. It is originally priced $714.87 from Grainger, but on a flash sale for $370.

These are the two most comparable concrete vibrators and both underperform when compared to the Hilti. While you could find these for less than the Hilti between flash sales and third-party sellers, they are both originally priced higher. I also have concerns that the DeWALT model is getting phased out. Maybe a better model is on the way, or maybe the current model is underperforming. I can’t say for sure, but something to be wary of when items are priced almost 50% off.

Where to Buy Hilti Concrete Vibrator

This tool is listed for $409 for the bare-tool and can be ordered on the Hilti site.

Final Thoughts

The Hilti Concrete Vibrator is fantastic for small-pour concrete jobs. When you consider its performance and it’s competitively priced with its top competitors. This tool is great for anyone in the concrete or construction industry.

Last October Hilti flew me out to their headquarters in Germany to give us an inside look at the 40 new 2024 Hilti Nuron power tools and equipment. I’m excited to announce that I have two of those new tools in the workshop to review for you. We are reviewing the new Hilti Nuron 22V Cordless Drill/Driver and the Hilti Nuron 22V Cordless Impact Wrench.

Let’s jump into the specs and features and what sets these two tools apart from the rest.

New Hilti Tools

What is the Advantage of Hilti Nuron?

Both of these tools are part of the Hilti Nuron platform, its 22V cordless platform that debuted early 2022. There are so many tool brands and battery platforms out there. What is the advantage of Hilti Nuron?

More Power

Most brands offer 18-20V batteries for the most popular power tools (drills, impact wrenches, grinders, etc). Believe it or not, 18V and 20V batteries have the same number of cells. Hilti Nuron 22V batteries have more cells and were designed to lose less energy during transfer for a more powerful battery all around.

Advanced Safety Features

Improving workers’ safety is a core emphasis of the Hilti Nuron platform. This has led to the development of advanced safety technology and equipment, such as movement sensors, auto shutoff, and ergonomic support to prevent accidents, injuries, and prevent physical wear and tear.

You can read more about Hilti Nuron safety tools and technology in our TIA article: How Are Power Tools & Safety Technology Saving Skilled Trade Professionals?

Tool in Action

The skilled trade professions are one of the most dangerous work fields, with construction injuries accounting for over 50% of workplace accidents. Jobsite accidents, heart hazards, musculoskeletal injuries are all risks these workers face at work each day. But here is some good news. Multiple tool brands are developing better safety technology for power tools, equipment, and even workwear meant to prevent these injuries and even death.

Today we take a closer look at the brands and products that are paving the way for a safer workplace for skilled trade workers.

Kinds of Safety Technology

Power Tool Safety Trends

Over the last few years there have been at least four key trends power tool engineers have been following to make existing tools safer. The trends we noticed are:

  • Built-in movement sensors.
  • Auto shutoff or kill switch features.
  • Redesigned to be lighter and/or more ergonomic.
  • Better batteries.

Safety Sensors

A lot of power tools are being redesigned with movement sensors that can detect when a tool makes a sudden or irregular movement, or detects a tool is in an unideal position.

The DeWALT 20V Stud and Joist Drill we reviewed last year is a great example of this. This drill has DeWALT’s E-Clutch System®. A stud and joist drill can swing out while in use and injure the user. The E-Clutch System® senses sudden or big movements to the left or right and will turn the drill off to protect the user.

The Hilti Nuron AG 6D-22 Grinder is another power tool and possibly the first angle grinder with a built-in safety sensor, which Hilti calls “SensTech”. SensTech senses those same big and sudden movements, but in any direction to protect the user from kickback. SensTech can also tell if the grinder is held vertically – this is an unideal position and the tool won’t run when held like this.

Overall, the trend in these sensors is to lookout for dangerous movement and shutoff tools before they cause injury. Which leads up to our next power tool safety technology trend…

Auto Shutoff & Kill Switch Features

As we mentioned, power tool safety technology is advancing to prevent injury before it happens. Auto shutoff is a great preventative feature. We’ve also noticed both the addition and redesign of kill switches so that they are quick and easy to access when you need to.

The obvious difference between these two features is that auto shutoff is the tool or machine turning itself off to prevent injury, and a kill switch is a way for the user to quickly and safely turn off the tool.

Kill switches aren’t new, but there’s a heightened emphasis on their location and ease of use. A kill switch is a great feature, but it’s useless if the user can’t easily trigger it when needed.

Lightweight & Ergonomic Redesign

Bosch Cordless Jig Saw

Power tools are constantly being redesigned to be lighter than previous models. There is also an emphasis on ergonomics. Both of these contribute to improving the user experience by creating power tools that are easier to control.

But is redesigning power tool considered “safety technology”? Actually, it is.

Along with statements of newly designed tools being lighter, they are often more powerful as well. This ties back into the tech and battery design. Improving these elements usually involves making them more compact without making them weaker, which feeds into a more positive and safer user experience.

Better & Safer Battery Technology

Cordless power is continuously improving, but packing in more power is not necessarily the #1 priority. Power tool and battery manufacturers know that better heat management leads to a better battery, whether it’s tabless lithium, a graphene battery, or a better temperature management system.

All of these options result in a battery that can go longer without overheating, has better energy transfer, and improves all-around battery life.

Back to Guide

Ergonomic Support

As power tools have become safer engineers have been able to widen their view and look at other causes of accidents and injuries.  This has lead to the development of more ergonomic support safety technology and equipment meant to protect the long-term musculoskeletal health of skilled trade professionals, especially those in the construction field.

Hilti

Hilti has developed two different ergonomic supports recently. In 2023 the company released the Hilti EXO-S Shoulder Exoskeleton, it was designed to help with overhead tasks. This year Hilti released the Hilti EXO-T-22 Tool Balancer. The Tool Balancer is designed to give a more “zero-gravity” experience during heavy wall demolition, it relieves nearly 40 lbs. of carrying weight for the user, and as a bonus allows for more drilling angles.

Hilti is the most accessible brand for this ergonomic support tech and equipment for skilled trade professionals, in our opinion. The products are readily accessible on the Hilti site and are designed for the construction industry.

Competitors

  • Festool: The Festool ExoActive is another upper body exoskeleton support for construction workers. Unfortunately, as of right now the Festool ExoActive has limited availability at best.
  • EksoBionics: This company primarily focuses on products for rehabilitation, but does have a variety of construction products.
  • Cyberdyne: Another primarily medical company, but does offer some “non-medical”.

Both Panasonic and Toyota have been developing their own exoskeletons, but no big developments have been made since 2019.

Affordable Alternatives

The Hilti exoskeletons range from $1,449-1,999. These products are generally intended for large construction teams and the industrial construction field. Here are some everyday ergonomic supports to prevent and alleviate aches and pains:

For everyday strategies to prevent injuries, the CDC created the free download Simple Solutions Ergonomics for Construction Workers PDF.

Smart Workwear & PPE

Wearable technology, like FitBit and smart watches, is making its way into workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE). No, it’s not to just count your steps. This technology offers a variety of safety features that includes:

  • Stress detection among workers
  • Fall detection.
  • Send SOS/emergency alerts.
  • Provides GPS directions and location.
  • Effective communication between workers.
  • Better equipment monitoring.

All of this allows workers to better manage their teams. They’re able to identify stressed workers who need a break, pinpoint and get help to an injured worker, ensure tools are ready and safe to use, and more.

Smart watches and high-tech walkie-talkies are the most popular smart devices. However, more smart devices are being developed.

Smart Hard Hats

The Teq Shield Communicator is one smart hardhat in development. In additional to standard ANSI Glass-G certification, it offers precise location tracking, has presence and proximity detection, and has audio and video capabilities.

SolePower Smartboots

Smart work boots is an industry many are competing for, but SolePower has made the biggest strides (pun intended).

SolePower Smartboots are currently designed for military, first responders, and industrial workers. They are designed to provide real-time insights while monitoring energy and fatigue, detecting falls and injuries, worker tracking, and proximity detections and alerts.

These boots don’t appear to be available to the public yet, but you can request a demo.

A few months back I shared with you all the incoming 2024 Hilti power tools and equipment. Today I have one of those tools in the shop to take a closer look at. It’s the Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera, and it just may be the best thermal imaging camera we have reviewed.

Today I’m walking you through all the specs and features Hilti promises, along with the pros and cons of the Hilti PT-C. Let’s dive in.

Hilti PT-C Review Guide

How to Use the Hilti PT-C

How to Use Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera

Thermal imaging cameras tend to be easy to use, the Hilti PT-C is no different. However, Hilti is a global manufacturer, and everything from initial set-up and beyond could not be simpler.

Controls

Hilti kept the controls simple on this thermal camera. The control panel includes:

  • Four navigation (arrow) buttons.
  • A center menu button.
  • Lower left camera icon “save image” button.
  • Lower right power button.
  • Upper left gallery button.
  • Upper right is an image lock/save to save additional copies of the same photo in different view settings.

On the control panel, you will also notice a microphone icon. It’s nothing you need to mess with. It just shows where the microphone is located.

The only other button is a trigger on the front side of the grip. This is how you take your photos.

Set-up

Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera set-up

When you turn your Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera on for the first time you’ll be prompted through language selection, your preferred date display, and setting the date and time. It’s all very easy to set up with the navigation arrows and using the trigger to select your settings.

Once done it will prompt you to open the protective lens. It takes maybe a minute, and after that you’re thermal camera is ready to use and every time after.

Settings

This thermal camera has a variety of settings and Hilti does a better job of explaining them in its Hilti PT-C Instructions for Use video than I could. But I’ll summarize:

  • The down arrow lets you select your “preferred picture mode”. This allows you to have a partial live view and infrared view.
  • The center button allows you to select a measuring mode, or isolate scan to hot or cold areas.
  • Selecting the upper right button from the menu screen allows you to select different surface materials for more accurate scans.
  • From the gallery, you can select different views of your photo such as infrared, overlayed image, and optical image view. Pressing the upper right button will allow you to save these different views of your photo.
  • “Voice Memo” can be selected from the menu screen.

Data Transfer

All of your photos and voice memos can be easily transferred with the included USB to USB-C cord. The USB-C inserts into a port underneath the silicon flap on the side to the right of the display screen.

Pros & Cons: Hilti Thermal Camera

Honestly, this thermal imager is practically a 10 out of 10. Each member of our team that played with it remarked how great the image quality was and how in-depth the features were.

But here’s a quick rundown of our pros and cons.

What we like:

  • Easy, straightforward use.
  • Image quality and large display.
  • Surprisingly lightweight.

One of the things that I like most about the Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera is that this is a high-end end thermal camera, but it’s straightforward and easy to use.

When you turn on the Hilti PT-C it prompts you through a quick setup. Once setup is complete, it’s pretty much a point-and-shoot thermal camera. Going through the different features was easy and intuitive.

As soon as I used the thermal camera I immediately noticed the picture quality.

It wasn’t how the photos looked that impressed me. I was impressed by how fast the image adjusted to temperature changes, and there was barely any lag in the image quality compared to other thermal imaging cameras that I have worked with. I could actually move faster while scanning than with others, and still experienced barely any lag in the thermal camera. The display screen is also nice and big.

Now, this is a fairly big thermal imaging camera. Between that and the quality construction I was surprised by how lightweight this device is.

Looking at the Hilti PT-C you’d think it’d be really heavy. It’s kind of bulky in appearance. I thought if I dropped it while wearing the hand strap it would yank my wrist, especially if I was caught off-guard. However, the force is surprisingly a lot less.

What we don’t like:

  • Manual & instructions.

There was very little we didn’t like about this thermal camera. In fact, my biggest complaint was the manual.

Most of the features were straightforward, but without instructions it was unclear how the voice memo feature worked. The manual didn’t really provide any help with this, and the manual was just very limited overall.

However, Hilti has a great Hilti PT-C How to Use video on the product page.

Back to Guide

Value of Hilti PT-C Thermal Camera

The Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera is sold in three different kit options on the Hilti site. Those kits start at $2,059.

This is definitely an expensive thermal camera. But remember, Hilti builds high-end power tools and equipment for professional contractors. Many of these professionals are in industrial construction or work for large organizations. These jobs require the highest quality tools available and work to avoid as many setbacks as possible. Conducting their own thermal inspections saves money from hiring out, and saves the time spent waiting for inspections, which keeps these projects moving forward.

FLIR is Hilti’s biggest competitor for high-end thermal cameras.

FLIR thermal cameras are widely used in police and military field. Because of this I haven’t found a FLIR thermal imaging camera that directly competes with the Hilti PT-C. The FLIR C3-X does compare to the popular Klein TI290. These thermal cameras are much more affordable, both around $500. But the Hilti PT-C blows both of these cameras out of the water.

The FLIR E6 Pro is actually more expensive than the Hilti PT-C. It does have cloud storage, but it lacks the variety of scan features, and the voice memo option. The Hilti caters to the skilled trade pro in a way that FLIR doesn’t.

Now let’s take a closer look at Hilti’s kits for the PT-C.

Value of Kits 1 & 2

All of these Hilti PT-C Thermal Camera kits include:

  • Hilti PT-C Thermal Imaging Camera
  • Camera Hand Strap
  • USB to USB-C Cord
  • Hilti PT-C Tool Case
  • Hilti PT-C Calibration Certificate

The first two kits are available for $2,059. However, kit two includes a battery and charger at no additional fee. Obviously, kit two is a better value.

Value of Kits 3

The third kit is five sets of kit two. Full price this kit would cost $10,295, but Hilti lists kit three for $9,269, knocking $1,026 off the original price.

Many skilled trade professionals do not need five thermal camera kits. However, this kit is great for supplying a large crew or multiple crews, or is a great option for a professional thermal inspection business.

Final Review of Hilti PT-C

Yes. I think this is the best thermal imaging camera available to skilled trade professionals. The near real-time view alone was something we hadn’t experienced before. Then add on all the different view and scan features and the Hilti PT-C sets itself above all other thermal imagers.

It’s an investment, but not one you’re going to regret.

Hilti has grown from a small, family-owned business in Switzerland to a global leader in trusted professional power tools and equipment. No, this wasn’t an overnight success. Hilti got here with products made with the end user in mind, built by engineers who anticipated and obsessed over the common problems faced by skilled trade professionals, and then solved them. The result is new Hilti power tools, equipment and technology that raises the standards for the construction industry, year after year.

This past October Hilti invited me to their Switzerland headquarters to see and experience their lineup of new 2024 Hilti power tools and equipment, specifically for the Hilti Nuron battery platform. Today I’m sharing these tools with you.

Guide

About Hilti Nuron

The tools in this release are part of the Hilti Nuron battery platform which launched in 2022. Hilti pretty much redesigned their tools from the ground up for this system. Of course better power and performance were a large part of this redesign, but smarter and safer tool technology were also huge priorities for the Nuron battery platform.

Hilti prides itself on its commitment to workers’ safety. In fact, Hilti believes that better safety contributes to a more sustainable workforce which leads to optimal productivity.

A lot of the products coming in 2024 exemplify those beliefs.

To learn more about Hilti Nuron battery platform you can read our TIA article: Hilti Nuron – The Game Has Changed.

NEW 2024 Hilti Power Tools

We counted 38 total new power tools and equipment coming in 2024. These products range from your everyday drills/drivers and impact wrenches to circular saws, concrete vibrators, the EXO-T-22 Tool Balancer, and more.

Our video includes all of the tools that we were able to learn about and interact with what at Hilti headquarters.

Top Tools

Again, there are a lot of exciting Hilti power tools coming out in 2024, and details about these tools are limited at this time. However, we will make sure to share everything we know about them as they come out. But today we’re sharing more details on our top two new Hilti tools.

EXO-T-22 Tool Balancer

The Tool Balancer is designed to relieve the physical load of carrying heavy power tools common in construction settings, especially industrial construction. Hilti gives this a support rating of 37 lbs. This can drastically reduce the weight of larger construction equipment. Pricing and release date are not yet available.

The EXO-T-22 Tool Balancer is a similar tool to the EXI-S Shoulder Exoskeleton, which you can read more about in our TIA Review.

SM 60-22 Cordless Miter Saw

Hilti didn’t want to compete with itself when designing this Nuron miter saw. They wanted to stand out against the whole market. Hilti claims this 12 in. miter saw can perform up to 50% more cuts on a single charge when compared to similar saws from other brands. This front-sliding miter saw gives you a four in. cut depth and a 14 in. cut width.

They also made this saw safer by moving the bevel adjuster to the front. So, no one has to stick their hand behind the saw to adjust it.

All 2024 Hilti Power Tools & Equipment

Our Thoughts on NEW Hilti 2024 Power Tools

First, I want to say thank you to Hilti for the invitation. It was great to learn about all these new tools and technology. I will never forget my trip to Switzerland. I’m was impressed and am excited by the new tools coming out in 2024.

Which new Hilti tools excite you the most and you’d like to see us test out?

Construction accidents happen every day around the world, and honestly a lot go unreported. Of course we hear about the big accidents: fatal falls, spills, machine malfunctions and so on. These accidents are devastating. However, nearly 2.3 million non-fatal construction accidents were reported in 2020 alone. The most common construction accidents don’t always result in death, but can still cause significant injuries that alter lives and pause, or even end careers.

Some construction injuries happen in an instant, others occur over time. Today we’re discussing the most common construction accidents and products to prevent them.

Construction Accidents Guide

Construction Eye & Ear Injuries

Did you know that construction workers are one of the most at-risk workers for hearing and vision loss? Hearing and vision injuries are actually one of the most common injuries across all industries. This result is probably the combination of how susceptible these body parts are to injury, along with how quickly and easily these injuries can occur.

Let’s dive a little deeper into these injuries and how they occur.

Eye Injuries

2,120 eye-related injuries and illnesses were reported by trade professionals in 2020.

Eye injuries tend to be immediate and the result of objects or particles striking or even impaling the eye. Construction workers are also exposed to chemicals and harsh ultraviolet rays that can damage the eyes immediately or over time.

Ear Injuries

Construction ear injuries can absolutely occur due to blunt force trauma or exposure to certain elements. However, most ear injuries are cumulative and result in progressive hearing loss over time. In fact, over half of construction workers experience hearing loss by retirement.

Most hearing loss is the result of routine exposure to loud noises for extended periods of time, and close proximity to loud noises, especially sudden, high level blasts of sounds.

Groggles – Construction Eye & Ear Protection

Groggles are a new 2-in-1 construction eye and ear protection. This product combines the standard construction safety glasses and noise-reduction earmuffs that are normally sold separately.

Not only are Groggles a convenient construction safety product, but they sit comfortably and firmly on your head. BONUS: Groggles can be worn over your preferred Bluetooth earbuds for your own DIY wireless safety headphones that don’t break the bank.

Learn more about Groggles in our TIA Groggle Review.

Buy Groggles for $35 on Amazon. Available in yellow or orange.

Bone & Joint Damage from Construction

Construction is obviously physically demanding and even the most in-shape workers experience natural wear-and-tear on their muscles, joints, bones and nerves. In fact, sprains and strains account for most injuries to construction workers. These musculoskeletal injuries can be financially devastating, between medical bills and loss of income during treatment and recovery.

In other words, it is extremely important for construction workers to protect their bodies. You can train all you want, but you are going to need equipment that supports the health of your bones and joints.

Hilti EXO-S Shoulder Exoskeleton – Upper Body Support

Save yourself and your employees from neck, back, and shoulder injuries. This Hilti EXO-S Shoulder Exoskeleton provides upper body support to hinder the natural wear-and-tear of jobsite demands. Not only does the exoskeleton protect the upper body, but it reduces fatigue which results in more productivity, more energy, and less aches at the end of the work day and careers.

Learn more about the Hilti Exoskeleton in our TIA Hilti EXO-S Review.

The Hilti EXO-S Shoulder Exoskeleton is available on the Hilti site.

DeWALT Knee Pads – Knee Protection

Construction workers have a higher risk of knee injuries compared to other professions. These injuries range anywhere from knee pain to debilitating knee replacement surgery. Recently released, DeWALT Knee Pads provide barrier protection along with comfortable gel padding.

You can read more about DeWALT Knee Pads in this TIA DeWALT Review.

Both the DeWALT Gel Foam Hard Shell Knee Pads and the DeWALT Gel/Thermoplastic Stabilizing Knee Pads are available at Ace Hardware.

Back to list

Electrocution

Electrocution is one of OSHA’s Big Four Construction Hazards and over 7% of construction deaths were electrocution-related in 2021. Obviously, electricians are most at-risk. However, construction sites also contain electrical hazards, such as: faulty wiring, exposed live wires, and misuse of electrical equipment.

Electrocution injuries can result in burns, nerve damage, cardiac arrest, and death.

Because the risks associated with electrical work are so extreme it’s extra important to make sure you use tools intended for electrical work whether you are a trade professional or a homeowner. Klein Tools is a great brand for electrical tools and supplies because they are designed for professional electricians.

Klein Tools Voltage Test Kit

Knowing the status of a wire is absolutely crucial for preventing electrical accidents and injuries. This Klein Tools Electrical Voltage Test Kit is great for testing voltage in most residential settings. An electrician may need more than this, but this kit is perfect for other trade professionals who need to know the status of a wire. It’s also affordable enough for a homeowner doing electrical work.

Get the Klein Tools Electrical Voltage Test Kit for $79.98 with Same-Day Shipping from Amazon Prime.

Klein Tools Electricians Tool Kit

A voltage test kit is great for getting the status of a wire, but you’ll need tools designed for electrical work if you want to actually work with electrical equipment. This Klein Tools 28-piece Electricians Hand Tools Kit includes rubber-molded hand tools to prevent and minimize electrical shock when working on electrical equipment.

Get the Klein Tools 28-piece Electricians Hand Tools Kit for $414.99 on Amazon.

Klein Tools also offers an upgraded 41-piece Electricians Tool Kit for $714.99 on Amazon. Both kits come with a backpack to hold all of your tools.

Electricians Gloves

Electricians Gloves can prevent and minimize electrical shock in the event of unsafe contact with a live wire.

Different electrical jobs will require different gloves. You can browse “electricians gloves” on Amazon to find the gloves best suited to your project.

Electricians Boots

Last but not least, you need to protect your feet from electricity. If you are an electrician or work on jobsite with ungrounded wires you should invest in a work boot that is waterproof, does not have a steel toe, is not made with any conductive materials, and meets the ASTM standard for electrical hazards protection.

Georgia Boot has a Carbo-Tec FLX Waterproof Pull-on Work Boot available on Amazon. It meets all of the above criteria for electrical work safety. It’s also available in women’s sizes!

For more info, read our TIA review of the Georgia Boot Carbo-Tec FLX Waterproof Pull-on Work Boot.

Amazon also has a wide variety of electricians’ work boots available.

Back to list

Slips & Falls

Falls continue to be the leading cause of death and injury for construction workers and even accounted for 35% of construction deaths in 2021. The heights, the weather, and jobsite conditions are just a few factors that put trade professionals at risk of devastating falls. However, there are a few products out there that can help prevent these deaths and injuries.

Carhartt Composite Toe Work Boot

These Carhartt Work Boots have features like abrasion-resistant rubber outsoles, gripping lugs and ladder locks to ensure your feet stay secure wherever you place them. There is also an electrical-safe composite toe. On top of that security, Carhartt Work Boots have reliable quality construction, and these boots include multiple comfort features and technology.

These work boots come in both men’s and women’s sizes. The Men’s Carhartt Work Boots and the Women’s Carhartt Work Boots have thousands of sales and reviews and rated 4.5 stars.

These boots are pretty budget-friendly and range in price from $120 – $140.

Safety Harness

Non-slip boots can only get you so far. Sometimes you do fall. A safety harness can prevent a fall from being the last move you make.

I say any harness is better than no harness, but it’s best to have a harness meant for your specific project. Fortunately, you can search for your specific safety harness on Amazon.

Back to list

Final Notes on Jobsite Safety

Each skilled trade has its own unique hazards. These products are great and can definitely promote your safety, but they can only go so far. Know the procedures, know the tools, and know the exact hazards for your skilled trade and prepare for them. These are the best steps to ensure you come home every day and with the same amount of body parts that you left with.

Do you want to become a home inspector? There are a lot of great perks to this popular profession. It’s a great field to work in as an employee or as your own business. You can make your own hours and work full-time or just as a part-time side income. It’s also incredibly in demand in a good economy. So, if you’re looking to enter this field, we created a Home Inspector Tools List – 14 Tools Every Home Inspector Needs.

Let’s be honest, there are more than 14 tools for this profession, but these 14 will get you started.  We included the most common tools you’ll use as a home inspector. But remember: each home is unique, and so is each inspection. This includes the tools you’ll use most often.

Alright, let’s take a look at some home inspector tools.

Flashlight

Milwaukee Rechargeable Lights

A good flashlight will be your best friend.  Sure you might be under a crawl space where there might not be light. More likely you will find yourself in areas that are dimly lit, such as an attic or inside a boiler door. So you’ll always want a good flashlight at the ready.

You’ll want a flashlight that is compact with a lot of lumens. I like these Milwaukee Rechargeable Flashlights. With these, you’ll also save money or won’t run out of batteries.

Read our TIA Review

Buy the Milwaukee LED USB-Rechargeable Twist Focus Flashlight from The Home Depot for $84.97.

Buy the Milwaukee LED USB-Rechargeable Fixed Focus Flashlight from The Home Depot for $74.97.

Ladder

Werner Multi-Position Ladder

Speaking of attics, some attics do not have a drop-down ladder access. Some attic accesses are located in odd spots, like above stairs. You’ll also be inspecting roofs. So, you’ll definitely need a ladder (or two) and I recommend a multi-ladder to safely access any hard-to-reach spots.

Some home inspector tools you can cheap out on. This isn’t one of them in my opinion. I recommend this Werner Multi-Position Ladder. It’s my personal favorite.

Read our TIA Review

Buy for only $250 from The Home Depot.

Handtools

Sunex Hand Tools Review

Sure, as a home inspector, you’ll have certain home inspector tools you’ll use at every job. But the fun thing about this field is that you’ll come across new things every day. Because of this, you’ll need a wide variety of hand tools.

Here are just a few hand tools you’ll need:

  • multi-screwdriver
  • wrenches
  • extendable mirror for hard-to-see areas

Since you’re only doing inspections you don’t need the highest quality tools. Go with an affordable brand you like. I was happy with these Sunex Hand Tools that came into the shop.

Read our TIA Review

Shop Sunex Hand Tools on Amazon.

Matches – Smoke Pencil

Smoke Pen

You will regularly be checking for drafts and leaks, and inspecting fireplaces and exhaust fans. A smoke pencil is great for this.

You don’t have to spend a lot on a smoke pencil. I thought Smoke Pencil ONE Air Leak Detector worked great.

Amazon Review: “I manage a roofing company and we had to check out an attic that had poor ventilation. This worked great to test airflow after we opened up the soffit area.”

Only $35.99 on Amazon.

Meters

HowtoUseAMultimeter

You will need a variety of meters as a home inspector.  Here are just a few meters you’ll need:

Definitely spend some time researching which meters you’ll need. We have reviewed a variety of meters and written some guides on how to use them.

Read TIA Meter Reviews

Tester

Not only do you need meters but you also need testers, such as:

Having the right tool is not only necessary for your job but will also make your job easier.

Read TIA Tester Reviews

Laser Temperature Reader

Laser Temperature Readers are often a forgotten, but necessary tool, especially for inspectors. They allow you to easily assess if items, such as motors and boilers, are running too hot or cold. You can also easily assess hot and cold spots, or just suspicious heat activity in a home and if further inspection is necessary.

For temperature reading, I like this Milwaukee M12 Temp Gun that TIA reviewed.

Buy it on Amazon.

IR Camera/Thermal Imager

Bosch Thermal Camera

If you want to get fancier, an Infrared Camera (IR) or Thermal Imager is the way to go.  These are more expensive than a temperature reader or smoke pencil, but an IR literally shows you current activity in real-time.

These are not only great for motors and appliances, but also for water leak detection and also drafts around windows and doors.

IR/Thermal Imagers have a wide variety. You may choose a more affordable option now and upgrade later.

This Bosch Thermal Imager runs full-price at $1,200 but is only $925.43 on Amazon.

Appraiser Tools

Yes, you can use your phone for pictures, but a nice, simple designated work camera is the way to go. Photos are a great way to document your work, anything you enter on a report, or just a great reference Not only do you need to document your work on things you saw but taking pictures is great for reference when you get back to the office.

This Canon EOS Rebel Bundle is a great deal, but Amazon has plenty of handheld digital cameras to choose from.

Laser Distance Measuring (LDM) Tool

Bosch Blaze LDM Reivew

Taking a short measurement using a tape measure is fine, but if you are taking a long-range measurement, a Laser Distance Measuring (LDM) tool is the way to go.

There is a lot to pick from. Some are as simple as a single measurement. Others can take multiple types of measurements but are more costly. We like these BOSCH Blaze LDM Readers. There are multiple readers available depending on what your needs are.

Drill

Hilti Nuron Drills

We have a drill on the list but an impact driver is also a great investment towards your home inspector’s toolkit. Some access panels have a lot of screws. So, having a good drill or impact driver can help save time and frustration.

These drills and drivers will mostly be lightly used. This is a good opportunity to opt for a light 12V option. Amazon sells a Milwaukee M12 Drill/Impact Combo Kit that would be perfect for your home inspector toolkit.

Knife

Milwaukee Fastback Knife

Make sure you have a quality knife at your side at all times. Not because it’s a dangerous profession, but because you might need to cut tape, a rope, or other things in order to access certain areas such as access panels.

I like this Milwaukee Fastback Knife that we reviewed. You can find them at The Home Depot.

PPE

Invest in Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).  You might be going in cellars, under porches, in crawl spaces, or dealing with hazardous areas.  Having the proper PPE will help keep you clean but most importantly it will keep you safe.

Drone

Appraiser Tools

A drone isn’t a “must-have”, but it can be helpful.  Some pitches on roofs are very steep.  Plus do you really want to get on a steep roof after it rained or in the winter? Yeah, no thanks. Here is where a drone can be a huge asset.
